Downsizing is one of the most emotionally complex transitions a person can go through. It might be driven by an empty nest, a retirement move, a health change, a financial decision, or a desire for simplicity. Whatever the reason, going from a larger home to a smaller one means making hard decisions about a lifetime of belongings. And it means doing it while managing a move.
Orderly Nest provides compassionate, practical downsizing assistance for Utah families and individuals. Amber understands that this process is not just logistical. It's personal. She approaches every downsizing project with patience and care.
What Downsizing Assistance Involves
The core challenge of downsizing is that you have more belongings than will fit in your new, smaller space. That means making decisions about what to bring, what to give to family members, what to sell, and what to donate or discard.
Orderly Nest helps you work through these decisions systematically. Rather than tackling everything at once, which is overwhelming, Amber moves through the home category by category, giving you time to think clearly without getting paralyzed.
She also helps identify the most meaningful items and the most practical ones for your new space, so the things that make the move are the ones that truly matter and will work in your new home.
Emotional Support Is Part of the Process
Downsizing often involves letting go of things attached to major life chapters. A home full of children's memories. Furniture that's been in the family for decades. Items that belonged to a spouse who has passed.
Amber and her team approaches these conversations gently. There's no timeline pressure, no judgment about what you keep, and no expectation that you move through the process without feeling something. Many clients describe the Orderly Nest experience as therapeutic precisely because the process is paced according to what you can handle.
Helping You Connect Items With People Who Want Them
One of the most meaningful parts of downsizing is finding good homes for beloved items. Orderly Nest helps coordinate the conversation about which family members or friends might want specific pieces, so that items with family history can continue in the family if that's what you want.
For items going to donation, Amber knows the local Utah organizations that do the most good with household donations, furniture, and clothing.
We organize anything in your home: kitchens, pantries, closets, playrooms, garages, storage rooms, home offices, etc. No space is too messy or overwhelming—we’ve seen it all!
We just need you at the start for decluttering decisions, reachable for check-ins along the way, and available at the end to wrap up. If you’re working from home or need to step out briefly, that’s totally fine! We never discard anything without your OK.
Yep! We’re moms. We know how to work around kids.
Not necessarily! We always work with what you already have when possible. If products would make a big difference, we’ll offer suggestions—and you can choose to shop yourself or use our optional Shopping Service.
For a $35 fee, we’ll take care of shopping for all the organizing products you need and handle any returns for you. You’ll just reimburse us for the cost of the items—we always check in with you first to confirm the total before making any purchases.
Every session includes decluttering guidance and hands-on organizing, product recommendations, custom labeling, and donation haul-away. We’ll create systems that actually work for your lifestyle—not just ones that look good in photos.
It depends on the size and complexity of the space. In a 5-hour session, we can usually complete one area (like a pantry, closet, or laundry room). Larger or more cluttered spaces often take multiple sessions.
While we’re not a cleaning service, we always tidy and wipe down surfaces as we organize. You’ll definitely feel a fresh, reset vibe when we’re done!
Never judgmental—truly. We meet every client with compassion and zero shame, no matter what your space looks like. That said, decluttering can feel overwhelming at times, and that’s completely normal. We’re here to guide you through it at your pace, never pressuring you to make a decision you’re not ready for. Our goal is to make the process feel as easy and supportive as possible.
Yes! If you don’t see something we offer, just ask! We can help with move-ins, downsizing a loved one, decluttering after loss, or setting up a craft space. We’re happy to tailor our services to your needs. Just ask—we’ll figure it out together.
Yes! Whether it’s mail, school papers, or office stuff, we create simple, sustainable systems for managing it.
While our main focus is function, we love making spaces look good too! We aren’t designers, but can help with layout, product picks, and light styling. Think practical with a touch of pretty!
