For most Utah families, the basement is a mix of good intentions and forgotten plans. There's the holiday decor, the camping gear, the kids' outgrown clothes in unlabeled boxes, the sports equipment from three different seasons, the furniture that didn't fit upstairs, and somewhere buried in it all, things you actually need and can never find.
The basement gets ignored not because people don't care, but because it feels too overwhelming to tackle. It's also not a space you live in daily, so it stays on the "I'll deal with it later" list indefinitely.
Orderly Nest changes that. With dozens of chaotic Utah basements turned into functional, usable spaces, and a clear process for doing it.
Why Basements Get So Disorganized
Basements accumulate clutter for a simple reason: they're out of sight. Every time something doesn't have a home upstairs, it goes to the basement. Seasonal items arrive and never get properly put away. Kids' things get moved down there when they stop using them, but never sorted or donated.
Over time, the basement becomes a place where things go and never come back from. Finding anything becomes a project. Using the space for something productive feels impossible.
The Orderly Nest Approach to Basement Organization
Basement organization starts with a full inventory. What's actually down there? What belongs, and what has been forgotten? Orderly Nest works through the space category by category, helping you make decisions about what to keep, what to donate, and what to throw away.
Then comes the system. The key to a functional basement is zoning, meaning each type of item has its own designated area. Holiday decorations in one zone. Camping and outdoor gear in another. Seasonal clothing stored properly. Tools and home maintenance supplies grouped together. Sports equipment where it can actually be grabbed on the way out the door.
With clear zones and labeled storage, finding what you need takes seconds instead of a full afternoon.
Storage Solutions for Utah Basements
Utah basements vary widely in layout, from finished family rooms with built-ins to unfinished utility spaces with concrete floors and bare walls. Orderly Nest works with whatever you have.
For unfinished basements, open shelving systems work well because they're affordable, easy to adjust, and give you a clear visual of everything stored. For finished basements that double as living space, the storage needs to integrate into the room without feeling like a warehouse.
Amber and her team will make specific recommendations based on your basement's layout and what you're storing.
Turning the Basement Into More Than Storage
Once a basement is organized, many families discover they actually have room for a playroom, a home office, a workout area, or a guest bedroom. The square footage was always there. It was just buried.
Basement organization creates the foundation for whatever you want that space to become.
We organize anything in your home: kitchens, pantries, closets, playrooms, garages, storage rooms, home offices, etc. No space is too messy or overwhelming—we’ve seen it all!
We just need you at the start for decluttering decisions, reachable for check-ins along the way, and available at the end to wrap up. If you’re working from home or need to step out briefly, that’s totally fine! We never discard anything without your OK.
Yep! We’re moms. We know how to work around kids.
Not necessarily! We always work with what you already have when possible. If products would make a big difference, we’ll offer suggestions—and you can choose to shop yourself or use our optional Shopping Service.
For a $35 fee, we’ll take care of shopping for all the organizing products you need and handle any returns for you. You’ll just reimburse us for the cost of the items—we always check in with you first to confirm the total before making any purchases.
Every session includes decluttering guidance and hands-on organizing, product recommendations, custom labeling, and donation haul-away. We’ll create systems that actually work for your lifestyle—not just ones that look good in photos.
It depends on the size and complexity of the space. In a 5-hour session, we can usually complete one area (like a pantry, closet, or laundry room). Larger or more cluttered spaces often take multiple sessions.
While we’re not a cleaning service, we always tidy and wipe down surfaces as we organize. You’ll definitely feel a fresh, reset vibe when we’re done!
Never judgmental—truly. We meet every client with compassion and zero shame, no matter what your space looks like. That said, decluttering can feel overwhelming at times, and that’s completely normal. We’re here to guide you through it at your pace, never pressuring you to make a decision you’re not ready for. Our goal is to make the process feel as easy and supportive as possible.
Yes! If you don’t see something we offer, just ask! We can help with move-ins, downsizing a loved one, decluttering after loss, or setting up a craft space. We’re happy to tailor our services to your needs. Just ask—we’ll figure it out together.
Yes! Whether it’s mail, school papers, or office stuff, we create simple, sustainable systems for managing it.
While our main focus is function, we love making spaces look good too! We aren’t designers, but can help with layout, product picks, and light styling. Think practical with a touch of pretty!
